Uncovering | Qu'aint Opening Reception

Uncovering

Quilt + Paint

Qu’aint is an ongoing conversation between painting and quilting, past and present. Sarah Atlee, Brenda Esslinger, Elizabeth Richards, Ann Solinski, Agnes Stadler, and Jason Wilson have been collaborating since 2018 to investigate the different ways we make meaning from material.

The Uncovering | Qu’aint Exhibition features contemporary art quilts and paintings that are inspired by the two art forms’ commonalities.

There is a common misconception that quilting is a dying art. The collaborative art group Qu’aint is here to show audiences that quilting is alive and thriving, inspiring contemporary artists to reach new ground.

With Uncovering, the Qu’aint artists hope to illuminate the ways that genres overlap and provoke conversation about what unites us.

Mark your calendars now for the opening reception of Uncovering at ARTSPACE at Untitled on May 23rd, 5-8 PM.

Join us for an engaging evening celebrating art and culture at the opening reception of "Marking: Indigenous Narrative," a captivating large-scale relief printmaking exhibition. Immerse yourself in the power of monochrome expression as we showcase the works of 18 talented artists, each sharing their unique stories through the ancient art of woodcut printing.

  • Date: Thursday, April 11th

  • Private Opening for Donors and Sponsors: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

  • Open to the Public: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Oklahoma City Community Foundation for their invaluable support in bringing this remarkable exhibition to life.

Discover the evolution of woodcut printing, a technique with roots deep in history yet possessing contemporary relevance. Woodcut printing involves:

  • Carving an image into a block of wood.

  • Leaving the raised areas to apply ink, which is then transferred onto paper or fabric.

  • Resulting in a striking, textured artwork/ Print.

Enjoy the rhythmic tunes of the Thunderboy Singers from 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM and Tony Tee will DJ the event from 7-8 PM. Delight your taste buds with delicious culinary creations curated by Victoria Redbird of Unite the People Native Catering. Please note that Redbird's offerings will be available for purchase, so remember to bring cash. Additionally, complimentary finger foods will be provided for attendees. Quench your thirst at our cash bar, expertly tended by Jessica Meikle, as you mingle with fellow art enthusiasts and creators alike.

Microbial Multiverse Opening Reception

Join us for the opening Reception of the Microbial Multiverse exhibition by Sarah Hearn.

Thursday, August 31, 5:30 P.M.

There will be a wine tasting, gallery tour, and an opportunity to meet the artist.

Microbes are Earth’s oldest living organisms. They live in consortia with all other forms of life. Trillions of microbes occupy all bodies—living or dead, human, or animal --inside and out. Microbes are woven within the intricacies of our ecosystems. They permeate clouds, atmospheres, and human brains. “Microbial Multiverse” is an exhibition of interconnected bodies of work celebrating these latent lifeforms and their multifaceted function within our universe.

Microbes are responsible for cycling carbon and nutrients within the soil allowing nutrient rich flora to grow and fauna to flourish and decompose. Some are extremophiles, capable of surviving in the harshest conditions including Earth’s polar caps and even outer space. Microbes are essential components of all biological life, yet we still know so little about them. This work explores what we can learn from their ability to communicate across species, adapt and thrive. How can we better understand and appreciate the microbial role among our planet and potentially beyond? The bodies of work described below employ a variety of media and approaches to depict the elusive and remarkable existence of these miniature marvels.
