function + design
January 15 - March 27, 2010
On January 15, 2010 [Artspace] at Untitled opened Function and Design, an exhibition featuring the work of 52 local artisans who created unique furnishings in six room settings for the home. Curated by Untitled's founder Laura Warriner, the exhibit brought together 52 local artisans in teams collectively creating functional furnishings and objects that showcased the diversity of their talents. The artists were asked to carefully consider the materials used for their products, addressing low energy impact on the environment and utilizing recycled or repurposed materials.
Function & Design expands the concept of Untitled's 2008 exhibit Dinner in the Deuce, which featured dining tables made by collaborative teams of regional artisans. This year, the concept includes the rest of the home including: Living Room, bedroom, Dining Room, Home Office, Media Room and Outdoor Living Space. Curated by Untitled's founder Laura Warriner, the exhibit brings together 52 local artisans in teams collectively creating functional furnishings and objects that showcase the diversity of their talents. Recognizing that a slowing economy and changing environment have shaped our ideas about how we spend our money and the products we select for our homes, audiences will be able to purchase individual pieces or components from the six rooms that will occupy 7,500 square feet of Untitled's galleries. In addition, an accessories store will offer one-of-a-kind products in a broad range of prices for all six rooms.
