History of the Festival
In 2013, ARTSPACE at Untitled inaugurated its first Steamroller Print Festival, drawing over 100 attendees to the Deep Deuce District. By 2017, the festival had grown substantially, prompting us to collaborate with local businesses and organizations. The eve of the festival saw the introduction of a lively Cinco de Mayo mixology party featuring live music, meet-and-greet sessions with Big Ink artists, and culinary delights from some of Oklahoma City's premier establishments.
The dedication of our talented artists, volunteers, sponsors, and collaborators played a pivotal role in transforming the festival into a day-long celebration. In 2018, the momentum continued with an expansion that included over 100 participating artists and the support of 24 sponsors. The festival became a platform for students from our Mentorship Program, college students, and artists from across the state and region to showcase their talents and engage with the community.
The Steamroller Print Festival involves a fascinating process of using a steamroller as a printing press. Participants carve intricate designs onto massive woodblocks, which are then inked and pressed onto fabric using the sheer force of a steamroller, thus creating a giant stamp.
The Steamroller Print Festival has grown yearly and was proud to have over 2,500 visitors in 2023. The festival's success and expansion underscore its journey from a modest start to a thriving annual event showcasing the collective impact of the Oklahoma art scene—join us in the celebration of creativity and community in 2024.
