Come and join us for a conversation with our current local artists in residence: Samantha Kickingbird, Una Anderson, and Justin Stier! They will talk about their practice, achievements, and challenges. Feel free to bring your questions! The event is free and open to all ages. A cash bar will be open before and after the panel.
Samantha is an artist and educator residing in the Oklahoma City area. She gained her first printmaking experience at OU. From that time, she has grown and expanded her repertoire to include a combination of different techniques. Her work joins the ideas of illustration with the conventions and materials of traditional fine art applications to create work that is uniquely stylized and narrative.
Justin Stier is a local illustrator and teacher from Oklahoma. After graduating college at UCO in '07 he went into the graphic design field and that led him to become a children's book illustrator. Primarily a digital illustrator he also works with traditional media such as pen and ink, watercolor, and printmaking, along with expanding his art knowledge as he continues to explore other means.
Una Anderson is a traditional printmaker and interdisciplinary artist. She incorporates mixed media and novel ink mixtures to build a base around which sits the visual information. Much of the imagery in her work evolves around visual metaphors used to describe inscape processing and efforts to positively address and promote our present social paradigm shifts. The materials she uses often include found objects, scrap construction material, silkscreen, intaglio, and relief printing. Together, the images and materials explore issues of comfort, community, and power structures. She was recently honored as Spotlight Artist in the 2021 Steamroller Printmaking Festival and was awarded a Summer Artist Residency from Artspace at [Untitled]. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts from the University of Central Oklahoma and joyfully teaches visual art at Frederick A. Douglass High School.
