Back to the Basix at ARTSPACE Untitled encompasses the new works of Jordan Tacker. These paintings include the old sparks and color of Tacker’s past work with the classical method of oil painting. As a student at Laguna College of Art and Design, Tacker has been exploring an atelier and representational method of creating artwork. Rather than reaching for something new, she hopes to rediscover the power of painting from past masters and explore the interconnected world around her through these paintings.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Jordan Tacker was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1999 and studies representational painting in both oil paint and digital mediums. In her chaotic paintings, Tacker focuses on the human body and its different interactions with the world around her. She focuses intently on the use of chromatic colors and extensive patterns to make her work pop.
Tacker is working on her BFA in a classical track of Painting and Illustration from Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna Beach, California. She has previously studied at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, along with interning at Gallery House Gallery, assisting artist Jocelyn Hobbie, and interning at ArtSpace Untitled. She also studied at The Oxbow School of Art in Napa, CA, and the Oklahoma Academy of Classical Art Atelier program in Edmond, OK.
Last year, Tacker exhibited her first solo show in August at the Edmond Fine Arts Institute in Edmond where she used to take classes as a kid. She’s also shown in Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalitions Momentum, a juried arts show for emerging artists under 30 in Oklahoma, for the last few years. She’s attended many artist-led workshops taught by Mike Wimmer, Rick Berry, Leslie Leneau, and Jime Wimmer. As she's studying at LCAD in California, Tacker tries to stay connected to the Oklahoma City art scene. She is a member of ArtGroup OKC, a group of upcoming artists focusing on studio visits and giving artists more opportunities, and the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition as well. Jordan Tacker is currently working on her thesis and completing her goal of graduating at Laguna College of Art and Design.
